If you are just setting out as a brand new podcaster or you have been in the game for sometime, it is OK to stop and reassess how and what you can do to become a better podcaster. We sometimes miss the small stuff and neglect our shortcomings rather than seeking to find solutions to make them stronger. More than just trying to hook up a microphone and hitting the record button, being a successful podcaster demands far more. You have to understand your style of speaking, master the art of being a good host, and always place yourself in different situations to test your abilities and help you to constantly learn. Here are some things to do that will improve your level of expertise.

1. Try to Interview Experts in Your Niche

There are over one million podcasters on Apple Podcasts (and more being added each day). One must either get a deeper knowledge base than your targeted competition or a much deeper (and authentic) interest in your podcast so you can stand out, but ideally both. Focus mainly on having the best guests related to your podcast’s topic.

By having well-known expert guests on your podcast, your audience react positively and when they share your interviews, your stats, will rise steadily. Even if at all possible, try to perform your most important interviews in person. Although in this day and time, Zoom or other online platforms make it extremely easy to do remote interviews, in person interviews will also increase your networking ability. You could possibly create a new contact that will pay dividends later!

2. Share your Interview with the Experts to Gain More followers

This is probably a technique you’re familiar with. There’s a reason why the interview-style model is built on so many podcasts. Interviewing someone with an audience brings the material in front of fresh faces. It’s one of the most common ways for your subscriber base to expand. The key to working with influencers in your niche is to ensure that they have an audience that is engaged. If somebody has 10,000 followers on Social media that they can connect their interview with, and you see that their posts are gaining 500-1,000 comments on average, this is a very good person to work with.

If they have an insanely active audience (5-10 percent), this could indicate an opportunity for you to have a strong conversion rate for your episode. When this expert tells their followers about your interview, some of those followers are to check out your website and your services as well. Some of them could reach out to you, interested in being on your podcast, too! Let’s make this clear though… because of their listeners, you’re not just interviewing people. You want to add people who make decisions based on the subject matter you are talking about on your show.

4. Provide Quality Interviews and Obtain Quality Results.

Make your interviews something that your guests will be proud of. You must put in the time to do your research on your guest and to prepare for a great interview. This preparation will not only reflect well on your show, but will also inspire your guests to share the episode with their audience. The main advantage you’ll gain by rolling out the red carpet for influencers in your niche is to gain access to their audience, who might become your new listeners.

Increasing audience numbers and subscribers for you will increase your expertise level in the eyes of others who are searching and checking out your programs in your niche. By interviewing other guest experts will also increase your standing as an expert in the minds of your followers.
