Peter Jackson was born on Halloween 1961! Director, writer, actor, producer and… a genius. Growing up in New Zealand he developed a keen interest in horror movies. It is noticeable that he was filming from an early age. Jackson started his career in film as a fanatical hobbyist, creating small movies with simple technical means and with the help of a couple of friends. Unlike some other New Zealand film directors, Jackson has remained in New Zealand to make films, preferring to have Hollywood come to him, rather than going to Hollywood to make his films.
His greatest influences as he suggests are: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Evil Dead, Dawn of the Dead and the Hammer horror films. “Bad Education”.
Despite being a perfectionist, he has a reputation for needing significantly less budget than other directors to achieve spectacular results and he is also known for his bad taste in clothes. Jackson has his own way to present antithetical themes; tenderness, fairytale, epic heroism and violence all appear equally successfully strangely in his hero and anti-hero films.
An acting spot in a Swedish 1965 film titled “The Sandpiper” was his first.

Apart from the Lord Of the Rings my favourite film of Peter Jackson remains Heavenly Creatures. A brief reference :Heavenly Creatures (1994) is a film by Peter Jackson, based on the true story Two young imaginative girls become “best friends” and increasingly involved in a wild world of fantasy that exists only in their imagination. Their families start worryning about the girls’strange friendship and forrbid them to see each other. They murder the mother of one of the girls, motivated by their fantastic personas. Nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay the film also launched the career of actress Kate Winslet nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.
